Getting a little crafty

This week I'm super excited to really get back into my work out routine (what little of a routine there is) and do some crafts for another blog I write for.  I'm also going to bake lots and lots more scones!!  Side note --- Today is also a big day as the hubby smoked his last cigarette!! This is huge!  This puts us one step closer to being a healthier family and having a sweet baby Cagle!!

I made blueberry scones with a lemon glaze... OMG, amazing!!  This is the perfect scone because it combines my two favorite things... Berries and Lemons!!  I'm in love with the recipe from the hub of our home.  These scones are delicious!!  I only ended up making about half the batch because it was late and I was super tired, but I am not regretting this decision.  It would have been totally worth the time to have more epic scones!! I ended up using frozen wild blueberries and frozen lemon juice from lemons I juiced over the summer. Delicious.

This week I am working on a piece for another blog and I really really love how it turned out.  The theme was to do something creative to help enhance the home... decoration or just something functional.  I want to create or adjust things to be beautiful and functional and fit someone's style.  This is part of the purpose of the other blog I'm involved in.  We help other families turn white walls in a new house into a home after a PCS (permanent change of station) due to military orders.

The project I chose to do this time is to add a little "flare" to glass pieces in the house... I did a vase and a few coffee mugs.  If you are part of the bottomless pit of ideas and inspiration that is Pinterest, I'm sure you've seen some pins about sharpies on glass and baking it to make it permanent.  I got my vase from Ikea a while ago in hopes it would house something that smells wonderful in my kitchen, and the coffee mugs I picked up at a dollar store this morning.  I believe the total cost was 7$ for 3 mugs and a vase.  I already had sharpies from other various uses.  I chose to only use GOLD for this project because it's super cute, and very "IN" right now.  I used a "recipe" from the blog Glued to my Crafts.  She's a fellow military wife and super creative!!

Supplies:
sharpies (reg or paint)
coffee mugs or vases (it could work with plates and bowls too)
rubbing alcohol
stickers
paper towels

step 1:  Clean your surface with rubbing alcohol.
step 2:  Preheat Oven to 350*
step 3:  Place stickers or figure out your design.
step 4:  Start creating!
step 5:  Once your sharpie marks have dried, remove stickers.
step 6:  You can use q-tips or paper towels to remove marks that you've made and don't like or touch up the designs you've made.
step 7:  Place your mugs/vases on a cookie sheet (I also used a silicone mat under my vase and mugs)
step 8:  Set timer for 30 minutes and relax!
step 9:  After the timer goes off, turn off the oven and leave everything in the oven until they are fully cooled.
step 10:   Enjoy your creations!!

***Note:  I have been told they will be fine in the dishwasher.  I plan on putting them in there.. If for some reason you are apprehensive, hand wash.  I will update once I've washed mine.

Here are the finished products!!!  They were super easy and are totally adorable!!
* please excuse the "merry christmas" still written on my chalkboard... I haven't cleaned it off yet..*

Until next time.. xo
