As of yesterday (Monday the 18th) we have no news as to when we are moving or if Justin was approved for VSP. Hopefully today will bring some answers... On a higher note, Valentine's day was wonderful, but we have a delayed date night since we were both busy and don't like the crowds. But, my wonderful hubby brought me flowers and the sweetest card with only a 4 pc chocolate box since I'm working on cutting out sugar. I hope everyone else had a fantastic Valentine's Day weekend.
I'm sitting here having a late breakfast of egg whites and my FAVORITE yogurt Noosa Lemon! No coffee for me today. I'm getting excited for lunch... Chicken plate from the PAX (Passenger terminal.. I don't know what it actually stands for) . I can't wait!
Today I finished up my White Walls project for the month of Feb. It was fantastic and it turned out so well! I can't wait to do it with different colors. I wanted to start with an old picture or poster from a thrift store, but I couldn't find one that was the right size or price. I was trying to spend 10$ or less for my entire project.
The only poster I found would have been 10$ alone. I had some leftover plywood from another project and the whole piece was 8$. I had it cut up at Lowes and just this size would have been about 3-4$. I had some paint from my art box and decided to use Annie Sloan Arles and a couple acrylic paints, a turquoise and a robin's egg blue. I also picked up a can of gold spray paint and painters tape. The tape was 3$ and the spray paint was about 3$, so I'm at 10$!
It turned out super cute!! I just LOVE it! So I started by staining the board with a dark stain, I believe mine was Rustoleum Carrington. After letting it dry and sanding it smooth. I then took the gold spray paint and just played around with it. The spray paint dried in about 15 minutes. I just dropped some of the other paints on it and took a dry brush too it.
After the blues and yellow dried, I started laying down the tape. I used 1.5 in tape instead of 1 in. I decided I didn't want just a chevron design so I chose to do a herringbone instead. I wanted a little more too it.
I'm really loving it so far!!
One awesome thing is that I shouldn't have penciled on the paint directly or at least only on the edges rather than all the way down the board. But, the eraser works just fine on the paint, it does however, erase the gold spray paint.. I didn't expect that.
I also decided that I didn't want the tape to go all the way to the edge so I cut a border around it. you could measure and cut the tape before hand, but I just used the husband's knife. After that was finished I took the board back out to the garage and sprayed it down with the gold again, this time completely covering it.
Again, the paint only takes about 15 minutes to dry. This is awesome and makes this a relatively quick project. I then started to take the tape off. It came off fantastic, except in 1 spot. I love that I didn't measure everything exactly so there is some variation in the gold stripes. It makes it unique!
I fell in love with the tape that I peeled off. The gold paint flaked off, and feels like gold leaf... soooo I'm thinking of doing something fun with it. Maybe something fun on a canvas...
I am still in awe of how well it turned out.. and I can't decide which way I want the design to go.
horizontal or vertical.
Either way, I'm in LOVE with it! Definitely a WIN!!!!! Now to figure out where to hang it. I may make another smaller one, and overlap them on the bookshelf...
Until next time..
